Libraries

There are about 800,000 books available in the city’s libraries. Those who live, work or go to school in Hino City, as well as residents of mutual-use cities, can borrow books free of charge.

Chuo Library

Public Community Centers

Public community centers are venues for meeting people, making friends, and learning to create a living culture. They are facilities that can be used casually by everyone from children to adults at any time.
Various events are held for city residents, and independent groups can conduct social educational activities, register and use the facilities as a venue for learning and friendly exchanges.

Shinsengumi Furusato Historical Museum (Tel: 042-583-5100)

The Shinsengumi Furusato Historical Museum collects reference materials about the Shinsengumi—an important local history asset—as well as materials from the Edo Period through Meiji Period, such as on Koshu-Kaido Road, Hino Juku, the Meiji Restoration, and the civil rights movement. Through public exhibitions, the museum strives to nourish and develop the local culture.

Cultural Resource Center (Kyodo Shiryokan; Tel: 042-592-0981)

The museum collects reference materials of the history, local culture and nature of the city, and conducts research studies. Exhibitions and lectures are held to show the fruits of their labor. In addition, the museum supports the local history education programs of schools and educational activities of city residents.

Hino Juku Honjin

Inquiries: Shinsengumi Furusato Historical Museum (Tel: 042-583-5100)
This museum is a designated historical remnant of metropolitan Tokyo, and a tangible cultural asset of Hino City. It is the only honjin inn structure remaining in Tokyo. Honjin inns and subsidiary inns were places for daimyos to stay at while in Edo and officials of the shogunate stayed and rested.
The building that remains was built by Hikogoro Sato, the owner of Hino-Hongo, and was completed in 1864.

Hino Juku Exchange Hall (Tel: 042-585-9072)

The hall has a display of community reference materials, including many about Hino Juku and the Shinsengumi. It also has a tourist information spot, rest spaces and meeting rooms, and is a venue for friendly exchanges.

Note: Meeting rooms can be used until 9 p.m. (you must apply between one month to three days before the desired date of use)

Hino Renga Hall (Civic Hall)

This large hall (with 1,094 fixed seats) can be used for various purposes, such as concerts and theater performances, and the acoustics are excellent. The small hall (with 208 movable seats) is appropriate mainly for recitals, such as for piano, and lectures. There are also exhibition rooms, practice rooms and meeting rooms.

Nanao Public Auditorium (Nanao Kokaido)

This hall has 300 fixed seats, and can be used for a variety of purposes, such as music recitals, movie showings, theater performances and lectures.

Zentaro Kojima Commemorative Hall “Mogusa Gaso”

At Zentaro Kojima Commemorative Hall, you can enjoy his paintings while “chatting” with the artist. The museum mainly spotlights displays works from the later years of his life, but also displays the equipment and utensils Kojima used, as well as his personal items from when he lived in Europe. Through the museum you can feel the very breath of Western artist Zentaro Kojima.

The facilities of municipal schools are open to the public to stimulate the social learning and community social activities of city residents.
Using the facilities:
To use a school classroom, group registration is required. Rooms cannot be used on an individual basis. Please call for more information.
