Children’s Halls (Jidokan)

These venues help children make friends through wholesome play while nurturing independence, creativity and cooperation. They are also places to protect children within the community where children can build ties with their parents and the people in the community.

Hours: 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Note: Tamadaira Children’s Hall Fresh and Minamidaira Children’s Hall Planet are open until 7 p.m.

Closed: Sundays, national holidays and during the year-end/New Year’s holidays

Eligibility

Children under eighteen years of age who live in Hino City; infants and toddlers must be accompanied by a guardian

Description of Facilities

Playroom, meeting room, library, crafts room, afterschool children’s club classrooms, etc. (Depending on the Children’s Hall, there may be cooking rooms and music rooms as well.)

Suku-Suku Club

For inquiries, please call your local children’s hall.
Infants between three and twelve months of age and their parents can come to these clubs at the children’s halls and have fun singing, playing hand games and making friends. (No reservations are required; just go to the site.)

Eligibility

Infants between three and twelve months of age and their parents/guardians

Hours: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Various. (The locations and schedules are available on the Hino Bulletin (Koho Hino), which is published on the first day of each month. You can also ask at your local children’s hall.)

Afterschool Children’s Clubs (Gakudo Club)

Every elementary school has afterschool clubs for children between the first and third grades of elementary school (first and fourth grades for children with disabilities) who would be alone if they went home after school due to their parent or guardian’s work schedule. Specialized staff will care for the children.

The cost is \6,000 per month per child (reduction and exemption programs are available).

Developmental Support

Consultation on a wide range of topics concerning child development is available. Psychiatric or medical consultation is available by reservation. Please feel free to ask for advice.

Childcare for Children Who Are Ill or Recovering from Illness

Temporary childcare is available if a parent/guardian is unable to take care of a child under ten years of age who is ill or recovering from an illness at home because the parent must go to work or a formal ceremonial occasion.
Registration in advance is required.

Child and Family Support Center

The Child and Family Support Center (Main Office), a comprehensive service counter for children and families, as well as Community Child and Family Support Centers in two locations (Manganji and Tamadaira) have open spaces where infants/toddlers and their parents can feel free to spend time together. These centers conduct various programs to assist with childrearing.

Description of programs: Comprehensive consultation for families with children (from pregnancy and for children under eighteen years of age), child abuse prevention awareness programs, home service consultation (temporary childcare, twilight stay, and short stay), childrearing family awareness programs, watchful care support program, children and family support network communication council office, and more.

Temporary Childcare

Temporary childcare is available in cases such as childrearing exhaustion, doctor’s appointments (on an outpatient basis), childbirth or other reasons.

Twilight Stay

If you are temporarily unable to take care of your child for one of various reasons—such as the hospitalization of a family member or working overtime—childcare is available from evening to night.

Short Stay

Temporary overnight childcare is available if childcare at home is difficult for one of various reasons.

Childrearing Plaza (Kosodate Hiroba)

Childrearing plazas where infants, toddlers and their parents/guardians can feel free to spend time together are available at Community Child and Family Support Center Manganji and Tamadaira, as well as at various locations in the city. You can also participate in their childrearing consultation, information exchanges and classes.

"Hinocchi" Afterschool Cassroom

“Hinocchi” is a place where children can remain on the school grounds after school and play under the watchful care of adults from the community.

Allowances for Children

Child Allowance (national program)

A child allowance of \10,000 to \15,000 per month per eligible child is provided to parents/guardians (the main income earner) until the end of the fiscal year that the child turns fifteen years of age. (Income restrictions apply. For those whose income is above the designated level, an allowance of \5,000 may be provided as a special case.)

Childrearing Allowance (Tokyo Metropolitan program)

An allowance of \13,500 per month per eligible child is provided to single parents due to divorce, or to a parent whose spouse has a serious disability, until the end of the fiscal year that the child turns eighteen years of age. (Income restrictions apply.)

Disabled Child Allowance (Tokyo Metropolitan program)

An allowance of \15,500 is provided per month per eligible child to parents raising a child under twenty years of age with a Handbook for the Physically Disabled, Level 1 or 2, an Ai-no Techo Handbook for the Mentally Disabled, Level 1 through 3, or a child with cerebral palsy or progressive muscular atrophy. (Income restrictions apply.)

Childrearing Allowance (national program)

An allowance is provided to single parents due to divorce, or a parent whose spouse has a serious disability, until the end of the fiscal year that the child turns 18 years of age (under 20 years of age for those with a designated level of disability). (Income restrictions apply for the applicant and family members living in the same household.)
